CHRISTMAS LIGHTS CAMPAIGN HAS STARTED!
The Bray Chamber of Commerce recently started its annual Christmas Lights campaign by calling around to the local businesses in the main shopping areas of Bray and asking for contributions towards this year’s Christmas Lights. The Supporting Businesses have been given a sticker for the front of their shops to show their support for this year’s Christmas lights
Ian Donnelly, President of Bray Chamber, said “we are delighted with the positive response the Chamber received from retailers and local businesses so far this year and would like to encourage any Businesses that haven’t contributed so far to do so to support the campaign and get their sticker. The Chamber as a voluntary organisation relies heavily on contributions from local retailers and business people and without this full commitment it simply isn’t possible to provide the lights.”
Chairperson of the Christmas Lights Campaign Noreen Kelly said “It is vital that we send the message out again this year to encourage people to ‘shop local’ at Christmas time and we are asking each and every business in the town of Bray to pledge their commitment and get this year’s sticker for the Christmas Lights Campaign”

The four Chambers in Wicklow, chaired by Co Wicklow Chamber President and Bray Chamber President Ian Donnelly got together recently for their quarterly meeting with the five Co Wicklow TDs in the Dail.
The meeting was intense at times but productive with many key points being discussed and debated. Top of the agenda was the cost of commercial rates within the county. Wicklow Town President Denis Fielding highlighted that commercial rates have risen by 77% since 2000 and were now among the top three highest in the country. He said “ I think we got our point across, but Government and local Council need to realize that the current rate structure is unfair and unsustainable. There needs to be action now before more jobs are lost and the county Chamber wants an immediate drop in rates with an option to appeal your rates based on an economic change of circumstances which the current rates act doesn’t allow”
The meeting went on to end on a positive note with news from Deputy Anne Ferris that after a long meeting with the VEC it was announced that the 50 jobs in Wicklow Town were not under any threat. President of Wicklow Town Chamber, Denis Fielding was relieved to hear the good news. He said “although we would have preferred that the Wicklow Office would retain its previous status instead of being demoted to a sub-office , it is welcome news that the existing workforce will be kept on. We understand that the departments may be moved around but that according to the Croke Park agreement the distance between both offices had a part to play in whether employees would be asked to move or not.”
President of Wicklow Chamber and Bray Ian Donnelly said “ this is great news not only for Wicklow Town but for the whole of the county who depend on the fantastic services that the VEC provide.
“Mr Donnelly went on to say that it was very important that these meetings take place with the TDs as it gives all the Chambers a chance to discuss and highlight issues effecting our local areas and he praised the TDs for all the hard work they continue to do for our County.
